When buying furniture for a child, these following three things should be kept in mind. First and foremost is the child's safety. Second, the length of time that the furniture will remain age-appropriate for the child is important. And finally, no matter how marvelous the furniture may appear to be, the truth is this: the one thing that most every child will probably end up appreciating the very most is enough open space (usually in the center of the room) in which to play and move around.
As far as a child's safety is concerned, most parents instinctively know that something like a table with a glass top would not be the best thing to use in a child's room. In the course of play, the child could fall into the glass, break it, and the results could be devastating. Not only glass, but furniture with edges that stick out too far can be hazardous as well. Furniture with flush edges is much more kid-friendly as the child moves around the room. Even drawers with tight hinges that snap tightly shut can be dangerous for little fingers. Furniture that is made of lighter weight materials with safety hinges, and other safety features is available such as childrens toy box and tables. These are the sorts of things that should be given the most consideration when buying furniture for a child. The last thing that a parent wants to do is spend time and money creating a room that their child will love, only to have their child sustain injuries, in part due to their own bad choices in selecting the furniture.
