Most cat owners face one and the same challenge — kitties crawl into our beds and training them not do so is usually a bit challenging once you’ve missed the right moment. However, training cat against sleeping in your bed is very important — due to a number of reasons, described below.

Different regimes — first of all, cats are nocturnal, and people are not. Even though cats sleep approximately 16 hours a day, they take shorter naps all through the day and remain mostly active during the night. So, these different regimes are already convincing enough not to let a can sleep in your bed.

Dirt and dust

— even if your pet stays at home all day long, it will still bring dust and dirt to your bed. Whether cat toilet filling or simple small dust particles it found all over your house, this is really not something you would like to have in your bed.

Transmitting diseases — even domestic animals can transmit a number of infectious diseases, which is one of the most convincing reasons for not letting the cat sleep in your bed.

Aggravating allergies

Even if you do not have asthma or allergies, all through the night presence can really aggravate otherwise ‘sleeping’ condition. Constant exposure to cat fur — especially when your are asleep — can lead to potential fur allergies in the future. And this definitely not something you would like to have, right?

Disturbing your sleep — bottom line, different regimes, dust, and fur are the major reasons for not letting the cat sleep in your bed. All of those disturbs your sleep, which can lead to plenty of other irritating conditions in the future.

Training and discipline — if you start training your cat not to sleep in the bed right away, chances are that regular discipline will take its toll. However, you should be prepared to be firm and consistent — no exceptions whatsoever. Draw a distinct line between what is allowed and what is not.

Closing the doors

— closing your bedroom doors will prove pretty helpful in the process. This way, you will know for sure that the cat does not crawl into your bed even when you are away. And, of course, it will alleviate any kind of temptation for the pet.

Getting cat beds or houses — finally, you should get a cat house or even a smaller cat bed. All in all, cats love to sometimes change their sleeping spots, but if you provide the pet with something cosy and small to sleep in, it is quite possible that your bed will lose most of its appeal, which is a win-win situation both for the pet and for the owner.

Finally, if you are about to bring a pet into your home, training it not to sleep in your bed is only part of the problems. You should also remember that cats might start scratching your furniture, and if you would like to preserve it, you might want to consider some furniture types cats will not be interested in.
