The Utility Room Report 2026: 50 Statistics for Journalists

This report was commissioned as a fifty statistic briefing on British utility rooms, and Furniture in Fashion is publishing a correction to that premise instead. No UK dataset records utility room dimensions, fittings or usage at national level: neither the English Housing Survey nor the Office for National Statistics treats it as a discrete measured room category, so the numbers journalists are routinely offered cannot be traced to anything. What we provide instead is fifty verifiable specification points covering appliance dimensions, worktop and cabinet standards, clearance and circulation requirements, plumbing and waste positions, and the ventilation rules set out in Building Regulations Approved Document F.
