organising a home office 6 - Home Office Organization Made Easy in 6 StepsUnlike an office which is part of an enterprise or a company, where the surroundings are kept clean and organized by a dedicated staff, a home office needs direct supervision of the owner. One cannot take the liberty of tossing stuff here and there, and then expect everything to sort out on its own. To keep a home office operating efficiently a proper management and organization is always needed. Clutter management and sorting documents is an important part of organizing an office space. If you are unable to access all your documents conveniently at your home office, then there is definitely something wrong with your management. Sort everything out with these six amazing home office management tips.

1. Take Care of the Paper Lying Around

Papers laid here and there not only makes it difficult to access the right documents at the right time, it also looks downright shabby. Create an assortment of paper documents and mark them for easy accessibility. One great way of managing paper documents is by color coding them. Buy different colored paper bundles and nominate each color for a particular purpose. Like yellow could be for home documents, blue for a major client and so on. This way you will be able to find your documents at a moment’s notice. Use files and folders to store your documents and house them in a see-through glass cupboard.

2. Solve the Printer Problem

A printer kept on the office desk takes a lot of space and makes it difficult to accommodate other items on the desktop. It takes away the freedom of movement and customizability of the computer desk. Invest in a wireless printer and keep it in a hidden corner in your office. By doing this you will be able to print directly from multiple wireless capable devices at your place and save a lot of desk space in the process.

3. Organize by Marking Everything

When your drawers, cupboards, files and folders are marked, finding items becomes easier and quicker. You can write directly using a marker or paste chits and label them to categorize your document containers and folders.

4. Manage the Wall Space

Wasting wall space in a home office is a sin. A home office owner does not work directly with many people like in an organization; hence, he needs reminders about tasks at hand. Hanging notice boards can help greatly in this case. The wall space can also be used for hanging calendars, clocks and constructing shelves for keeping files and binders.

5. Create a Mail Station

Even though e-mails have widely replaced paper mails, there are still some tasks that necessitate the use of paper mail. Creating a mail station will help you organize your daily mails systematically. Make a folder for incoming and outgoing mail, a folder for mails that you need to file, and a separate folder for bills accumulated over the past month.

6. Get Rid of Useless Things

Well, if you think you have everything useful stored at your office, think again. After a certain time, some items which held a lot of meaning and were valuable become totally redundant. It is extremely important that you sift through the things kept in your drawers, office cabinets, and cupboard, in order to find useless stuff and get rid of it. Such items not only take a lot of space in your home office, they also make it difficult for you to access the important items in time. Dried out pens and markers, obsolete documents, never-used key chains and spare stuff that you kept for the rainy days, but do not require any more, should be completely removed or shifted to a store room.
