Spring Cleaning

Welcoming spring by thoroughly cleaning your entire house is usually a great idea. However, with a number of tasks to handle — even in a rather small apartment — it is easy to lose track of time and forget about some minor details — details that still play a very important part in your end cleaning picture. So, here is the basic spring cleaning checklist to help you with the essentials. After you are done with these areas, there will unlikely be anything serious left for you to clean:

Windows and curtains

One of the most obvious ways to welcome the arrival of spring is to clean the windows. To make sure the cleaning is effortless, first rinse the outer side with clean water to remove dust and dirty from the rainy season. After that, use any ready-made glass cleaner and wipe the solution dry with paper towels or old newspapers. And, of course, do not forget to wash your drapes and curtains.

Rugs and carpets

You can either replace some of your old rugs and mats — in the bathroom especially — or deep clean them with special detergent. It is also possible to get some of your carpets dry cleaned.

Shelves and drawers

Next, dust all of your shelves and drawers. As you are going through every wardrobe and cabinet in your home, you might also want to get rid of the clothes and shoes you no longer wear, as well as of other old junk you have no use for.

Under and behind the furniture spots

Moving some furniture around to thoroughly clean under it (and behind it) is another step that is totally worth the effort. Sure, it might take a while, but the result is truly worth it. Also, do not forget about your wardrobe tops — you will be surprised to see how much dust there is.

Walls and ceilings

With painted walls, wipe cleaning is not always possible. However, you may consider a quick repaint job — simply apply another layer of identical paint to mask all the stains and blemish — generally, this should be enough. The same goes for the ceilings.

Furniture surface and floors

Wooden furniture and floors require polishing, and spring is as good season as any to take care of that. And, of course, if there are any stains on your furniture, you should clean them as well. Here is a quick guide on cleaning tough stains on wood, high gloss, glass, and marble.

Fridge

Reorganise the fridge, get rid of all of the expired products and sauces and carefully clean all the shelves. If you would like to get rid of an unpleasant smell, add freshly squeezed lemon juice into the cleaning solution.

Tiles

Kitchen and bathroom tiles, too, require regular cleaning. Given how seldom we clean tiles in the bathroom they should definitely be on your spring cleaning checklist. And, since you’re already there, take care of a shower cabin.

Outdoors: patios, driveways, pools

Rinse your driveway with a hose, get your pool ready, and if you live in an apartment — wash your balcony. That’s it — you’re done!
