The report finds that legs, frames, fixings and extension mechanisms decide when a table stops being usable, and that material choice mainly determines whether the ending is gradual and repairable or sudden and permanent. Solid timber fails slowly and can be sanded back to new; veneer, laminate and high gloss board tops cannot be refinished once the face layer is damaged; tempered glass either survives indefinitely or fails completely at an edge impact; and stone is effectively unbreakable but porous enough to stain. The analysis deliberately publishes no lifespan figures in years, noting that no verifiable national dataset exists, and sets out the clearances that decide whether a table still suits a room.
