The report identifies tenement stair access, particularly the diagonal clearance at a half landing turn, as the binding constraint on furniture choice in the city, ahead of room dimensions, which is why sectional and flat pack construction dominates local preference. Generous ceiling heights reward tall storage and larger scale pieces that would overwhelm later housing, and also solve the storage shortage in flats built without fitted cupboards. The analysis notes that stone built flats offer deep window reveals as usable space while chimney breasts and original cast iron radiators leave a large room with surprisingly few uninterrupted walls.
