Coat stands transfer between British homes more readily than any other hallway furniture, and Furniture in Fashion's 2026 report explains why: they carry no fitted dimension. Where a console table or shoe cabinet must match a specific run of wall unique to one house, a coat stand needs only a floor area of around 40cm to 50cm square and a ceiling above 180cm. The limiting factor is construction rather than style. Because the whole load sits high on a narrow base, the joint between column and base takes every lateral tug, and solid timber or welded steel survive repeated dismantling while particleboard with a pressed insert does not.
