The Nursery Furniture Set Dimensions Database: UK Room-Fit Data

Nursery furniture usually fails on room fit rather than on quality. A cot bed, a chest of drawers and a small wardrobe will physically fit into most British box bedrooms, but fitting is not the same as working: the door has to open, an adult has to stand at the cot side, and there has to be room to kneel at a drawer. Comparable national data on UK bedroom dimensions is not published, so our 2026 report builds its room fit picture from the Nationally Described Space Standard and the proportions typical of third bedrooms in terraced and semi detached housing. It sets out the dimensions that decide the layout, including the 140cm x 70cm cot bed footprint, the 70cm access strip an adult needs at the cot side, and the 90cm to 100cm changing height that a standard chest achieves.
