Parasol buying in Britain is governed by wind rather than sun, and the decisive specifications are base weight, canopy venting and mechanism rather than fabric or colour. Our 2026 report is explicit that we hold no survey fieldwork on parasol purchasing and will not present figures we cannot attribute: what follows is our assessment as a UK furniture retailer of how the decision is approached and where it goes wrong. We set out the ballast requirements that determine survival, from around 20kg for a freestanding centre pole parasol to 50kg or more for a cantilever, and explain why offset canopies translate wind loading into a turning force at the base.
