Minimalist colour in Britain has moved away from white, and our 2026 report sets out why. Brilliant white was formulated for maximum reflectivity and, with no warm light to bounce back under Britain's overcast daylight, it turns faintly blue and reads as clinical on walls. Warm off whites, soft stone, mushroom and greige have taken over. The harder finding is that minimalism is a storage discipline before it is a colour scheme: a restricted palette exposes everything left on a surface, so closed storage should be specified before any paint is chosen, particularly given how little built in storage older UK housing provides.
