Recycled Polyester Sofas: What Share of UK Fabric Sofas Use Recycled Fibre? (Audit)

Recycled polyester is now a normal component of UK upholstery, but Furniture in Fashion will not publish a share figure for how many fabric sofas contain it, because no verifiable audit of upholstery fibre content exists and an estimate would be invention. Our analysis explains what can be established instead: recycled polyester is molecularly identical to virgin polyester and performs the same on a sofa, so durability differences come from yarn grade and weave rather than fibre origin. We set out which certifications actually verify a recycled claim, separating the Global Recycled Standard and Recycled Claim Standard from OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which many buyers misread as a recycled content mark. The report is candid about the limits of the environmental argument, including end of life recovery and microfibre shedding, and concludes that frame, suspension and foam quality do more for sustainability than the cover fibre, because the greenest sofa is the one that never needs replacing....
