A table lamp sold legally in the UK has to satisfy a short list of requirements, and Furniture in Fashion's 2026 explainer sets out how to check each one. The luminaire is designed and tested against the BS EN 60598 series, with part 2-4 covering the portable general purpose lamps most table lamps are, and the product must meet the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and carry conformity marking, which is UKCA in Great Britain with CE still widely recognised. The details that matter at home are more specific: a BS 1363 fused plug, a maximum wattage and lamp cap type marked at the lampholder, and either an earth connection for Class I or the double square symbol for Class II.
