The Wardrobe Price Index 2026: Five Years of UK Data

Wardrobes are sold by door count but should be judged by hanging length, according to a new report from UK furniture retailer Furniture in Fashion, which states that no public five year price series exists for the category and declines to estimate one. The analysis sets out linear centimetres of rail as the meaningful capacity measure, noting that a shirt occupies 2cm to 3cm of hanging and a winter coat 6cm or more, and maps common wardrobe widths against realistic garment capacity. It identifies carcass board thickness and back panel construction as the components that determine whether doors still align after a decade, and finds that wall width is rarely what defeats a wardrobe in British homes: ceiling height, uneven floors and unfound door swing space are the usual causes.
