Hallway furniture is replaced sooner than furniture in any other room, and Furniture in Fashion has set out why. The reason is not wear. It is depth. A piece bought 10cm too deep for the passage does not become tolerable over time, it becomes the thing everybody bumps, and it is removed rather than lived with. That single error, repeated across British terraced and semi detached homes with halls of 90cm to 110cm, is the largest driver of what an entrance hall costs to furnish. This index sets out the decisions in order of influence: depth first, then whether the household can fix into walls at all, then how many separate pieces the hall really needs.
