FSC-Certified Wooden Side Tables: What Share of UK Stock Is Certified? (Audit)
Furniture in Fashion has audited the question of how much of the UK's wooden side table stock carries Forest Stewardship Council certification, and the finding is that the figure cannot be established. No certification scheme, trade body or official source publishes a category level count of certified products, and no retailer inventory census exists that would allow a credible percentage to be calculated. What the audit does establish is how the claim works. Certification is a chain of custody system attaching to the supply route and the licence holder, not a quality grade for the finished table, and distinct label types cover fully certified, mixed source and reclaimed material. Side tables are a structurally awkward category because they frequently combine timber with glass, metal or stone, and because small occasional furniture is often assembled from bought in components that must each sit inside the certified chain.
