Is the Home Office Paperless? Survey of 1,500 UK Workers on Filing

The paperless home office remains out of reach in most British households, and Furniture in Fashion's 2026 assessment finds the obstacle is structural rather than behavioural. Documents issued by third parties on paper, from identity records to property and vehicle paperwork, accumulate in whichever room holds the desk, so a small but permanent filing requirement survives an otherwise digital workflow. No survey fieldwork sits behind this report and no figures are presented. Instead it works from the fixed dimensions that decide whether home storage succeeds: an A4 suspension file needs around 33cm of internal drawer width, foolscap closer to 40cm, and a desk shallower than 60cm cannot hold a screen and a document at once.
