Toilet Seat Materials Tested: Wood, Thermoplastic & Duroplast Compared

Material choice decides how a toilet seat performs, and the three that dominate UK bathrooms behave very differently. In this 2026 comparison, UK furniture retailer Furniture in Fashion sets duroplast, thermoplastic and moulded wood against one another on weight, rigidity, impact behaviour, scratch resistance and moisture vulnerability. Duroplast is a thermoset resin that resists scratching but can chip, thermoplastic flexes and absorbs knocks while scratching more easily, and moulded wood feels warmer but is exposed wherever the lacquer is breached around hinge holes.
