Generation Gap: How Gen Z, Millennials and Boomers Choose Sofas
Seat depth is the measurement that decides whether a sofa is comfortable, and it is the one almost nobody checks, according to new editorial analysis from Furniture in Fashion. The report maps sofa dimensions to posture, finding that 50cm to 55cm of depth supports upright sitting while 60cm and above invites lounging and requires cushions to sit up straight, and that a seat height of 45cm to 50cm is what makes standing up straightforward. It also examines the three specifications that determine how a sofa ages and none of which appear in a photograph: frame construction, spring system and cushion fill. On scale, the analysis recommends leaving 15cm to 20cm of wall at each end of a sofa, 90cm on the main walkway and 40cm to 45cm between the seat front and a coffee table.
