Bathroom Accessory Finish Test: Chrome vs Brass vs Black After 12 Months

Furniture in Fashion has published an assessment of how the three dominant bathroom accessory finishes behave over a year of ordinary UK household use. The headline conclusion is that the finish is rarely the variable that fails: water hardness and cleaning products decide the outcome. Polished chrome shows limescale most readily but tolerates the widest range of cleaning approaches. Brushed brass hides water marks well and is the most vulnerable to abrasive and acidic cleaners. Matt black conceals limescale but shows soap residue and shows wear at contact points first. This is not a laboratory test and we make no claim to controlled measurement.
