Bistro chairs left outdoors in Britain fail at their joints and fixings long before their surfaces give way, according to a new construction assessment published by UK furniture retailer Furniture in Fashion. Reviewing the metal and rattan constructions used across fifteen common bistro chair formats, the analysis finds that water entering welds, rivet holes and uncapped tube ends is the dominant long term failure route, while visible surface rust is a symptom rather than a cause. Cast aluminium frames avoid rusting entirely but reintroduce corrosion through plain steel bolts, and synthetic rattan performs very differently depending on whether the hidden frame is aluminium or mild steel. Natural rattan and cane are identified as conservatory materials rather than garden furniture.
