Desks in Bedrooms: Survey of 1,500 UK Adults on Sleep & Work Boundaries
Desks in UK bedrooms are now a standard arrangement rather than a stopgap, and our 2026 analysis finds the sleep and work boundary is decided by geometry before psychology. Sightline from the pillow matters more than distance: a desk on the bed head wall disappears when you lie down, while a desk facing the foot of the bed becomes the dominant object in the room. We set out the five common desk positions against the floor space each needs and how they behave overnight, explain why 50cm to 60cm of desk depth is the figure that makes a workstation possible in a standard second bedroom, and argue that one piece of closable storage does more for the boundary than any amount of extra desk width. The report publishes no survey figures: national data on desk placement in UK homes is not available in a form we would quote, so Furniture in Fashion presents this as editorial assessment....
