Furniture in Fashion's 2026 report opens by correcting its own premise: no postcode level dataset of UK furniture demand is published, so a genuine chest of drawers heatmap cannot be produced without inventing it. Instead the analysis maps the housing constraints that create the requirement, concluding that drawer storage is a substitute for built in storage and is needed most where fitted wardrobes were never specified. Housing age is the principal driver, with the English Housing Survey documenting the substantial share of English homes built before 1945, when freestanding bedroom furniture was assumed.
