What Do I Need To Do Before My House Is Appraised

What Do I Need To Do Before My House Is Appraised

When you find out the appraiser is coming, you might panic, asking yourself, “What do I need to do before my house is appraised”. First, you should calm down. Appraisers are not ogres with white gloves who are going to judge your housekeeping furnitur e skills. In fact, contrary to what many people think, you don’t need to spend days scrubbing your house until the floors shine. The value of your home is based less on the appearance of your décor and more on what shape the basic components of the house are in. Solid floors, straight, unmarred walls , good ceilings (no sagging or water stains) a watertight roof and doors that shut and open with ease are some of the basics. After all, whoever buys your house isn’t going to be concerned if there’s a stain on your kitchen rug. They’re not going to use your kitchen rug. They will, however, be concerned about the age and condition of your kitchen appliances. Things you should do include: Make sure your gutters are clean and in good shape Trim those hedges Pressure wash the house if the paint is dirty Paint the house if the paint is shot Replace defective ceiling tiles Patch...

Portable Custom Display Cabinets, Your Own Special Show Pieces

Portable Custom Display Cabinets, Your Own Special Show Pieces

Whether you’re an exhibitor at a craft fair or a company with a booth at a major trade show, chances are you have items you’ll want to display. While you might have a nice showroom loaded with mirror-backed display space, it’s kind of hard to carry that with you to a show. The answer to your problem is simple. Portable custom display cabinets  can be made to fit your merchandise comfortably on their shelves and, believe it or not, they can fit your budget, too!   Often when we hear the word “custom”, we immediately think of a product that has been specially manufactured for us, a unique one of a kind item and those are usually pretty expensive. This is at least partially correct. Custom-built, one-of-a-kind display cabinets would cost a pretty penny. Custom cabinets, however, don’t have to. That’s because, in this instance, the cabinets are made but the shelving and display areas are designed for easy customization using materials that are also already produced. It’s the mixing and matching of cabinets, shelving and materials that makes them customized. What you’re doing is choosing from many options to create a cabinet that will work for you. The word portable means easy...

What Do I Need For My First Apartment

What Do I Need For My First Apartment

You’re getting your first apartment! Congratulations! You’re probably bubbling with anticipation and possibly are a little nervous, too. After all, it’s a big step from choosing what bedspread or posters you wanted in your room at home to decorating your first “home”. I am sure that your parents and friends are loaded with advice, but just in case you’re still asking yourself, “what do I need for my first apartment?” I’ve compiled a short list of things that you might want to put on your list.   First, you want a comfortable bed. If the apartment is small (a studio perhaps), you might opt for either a futon or a convertible sofa to save space. Remember, in a small apartment, furniture  that can multi-task means more room for the fun stuff! So, why not a table that can also be a storage trunk?   The storage ottoman/table works like a coffee table, a footstool and inside you can tuck away those linens you need to make up the sofa bed each night! If your kitchen is of the “eat-in” variety, great! If not, you need dining space. Try a drop leaf table and a set of chairs. Each of these items can be found...

Country Style Sofas and Loveseats, For Down-Home Charm

Country Style Sofas and Loveseats, For Down-Home Charm

Decorating your home in the rustic, homey style that we call “country” can be as easy as finding the right basic pieces and then adding layers of farm-friendly accessories. Choose your larger pieces from some of the many great country style sofas , chairs, dining room sets  and beds that look like something you’d find in a charming country home or inn. Then, add the right lace curtains, that gingham trimmed table runner and all of those eclectic pieces of folk art to make the room sing country with a pronounced “twang”. Some staples of this style of decorating include using wallpaper instead of paint, or if you prefer, use wainscoting with a chair rail and then wallpaper up to the moldings. Curtains with lots of flounce and lace are must haves for the windows. To add rustic charm, avoid carpeting and let the floors be natural wood (or faux natural wood as the case may be). Throw rugs can punch up the look. Braided and hooked rugs do especially well in a country room.   Country style sofas are a bit large for a small living room , but you can easily take a smaller sofa and add some of the same charm using...

Make A Camping Checklist, Otherwise Youll Forget

Make A Camping Checklist, Otherwise Youll Forget

Make A Camping  Checklist, Otherwise You’ll Forget I remember our family camp outs when I was a kid. We’d drive for hours to reach a park somewhere out in the wilderness. Once we arrived, we’d unpack our tent and sleeping bags, and then, inevitably, we’d find that we forgot to pack something essential. This would not have happened if we’d been organized enough to make a camping checklist before loading up the car. So, before you head out into the great outdoors only to repeat our mistakes, why don’t you stop for a minute right now and do just that? Start by listing the essentials. Your list for the upcoming camping trip needs to contain all of the essentials, such as: Your tent Camping stools  Tent stakes (those are EASY to forget or lose!) A hammer or hatchet Sleeping bags Camp stove and/or firewood Matches A lantern A shovel Cooking utensils Food Clothing. First aid ki Once you’ve gotten the basics on your list, start adding those items that you want to take. You might want your fishing reel and tackle or maybe you’ll need a compass for hiking? Your destination and planned activities will determine a great deal of what goes on...

The Conference-Planning Checklist, The Tool To Make It All Run Smoothly

The Conference-Planning Checklist, The Tool To Make It All Run Smoothly

There is a very good reason that Santa Claus makes a list and checks it twice. Lists ensure that nothing is left out. When you’re planning a conference or important business meeting, you want to be a lot like old St. Nick and make a conference planning checklist  that will ensure the entire thing goes off like… magic! You may not be delivering toys around the world, but you have eleven business executives showing up at 8:00 p.m. on an international flight that has had them in the air for over nine hours. You definitely want to have them met and taken straight to their hotel where there rooms are ready and waiting. List these tasks and then check them off as they’re accomplished. There are all sorts of small things that work together to make the meeting a success. The coffee  and pastries for the morning break, the luncheon catered by a local restaurant, the vinyl portfolios with pad, paper and pens, all emblazoned with the company logo, that are on the conference table for each attendee work together to make the day go smoothly. You’ll want to arrange for transportation from the hotel to the office, or if the...

A Household Chores Checklist Helps Even Out The Workload

A Household Chores Checklist Helps Even Out The Workload

In any household furniture , there are jobs that must be done on a regular basis. In a society where often both parents have jobs and the kids have school plus any extra activities, the tasks can be left undone and the messes can pile up while we are busy living our lives. It certainly is not fair to expect the Mother or the Father to handle all of the chores. The best way to make sure everyone does his or her part and that all of the work gets done is to create a household chores checklist.   It’s really simple to create the list and to make sure the workload is fairly distributed. First, list the things that need to be done daily. Washing dishes, making beds, laundry and other daily chores need to be listed first. Then add those chores that come around frequently, but not daily. This would include tasks such as mowing the grass, watering the flowers, dusting furniture or polishing silver. Then, finally, add in the bigger chores that are done just now and then. That would include jobs like washing the car, mending a fence, painting the shutters, etc. This will give you a fairly accurate...

Plans to Build a Magazine Rack, So Easy I Could Do It

Plans to Build a Magazine Rack, So Easy I Could Do It

Some projects require more creativity than carpentry skills. I learned this recently when I encountered a couple of unique projects. I found two different sets of plans to build a magazine rack . The one was fairly complicated and involved all sorts of measuring, power tools and devices that I had never heard of before. The other plan, however, was something that even a novice, such as myself, could accomplish with ease .  My plan involved an old ladder, some screws, paint and four 1 x 4 pieces of lumber precut to be four inches long (making them 1x4x4). First, using a saw (a tool I know), I cut the ladder to length, three feet long. I left the rungs in place, and sawed the wood at either end of its supports, leaving it open-ended. Then, I scraped off old paint and applied a coat of my preferred color. I sanded and then painted the four square wood pieces, too and let them dry. Then, using a battery-powered drill/driver, I drilled on hole in each of the four ends of the ladder’s sides, near the end of each of the support poles. I also drilled a hole in the center of each of the...

Trade Show Furniture, Quality Matters

Trade Show Furniture, Quality Matters

Every exhibitor at a trade show, whether they admit it or not, is trying to outshine his or her competitors at least as much, if not more, than they’re attempting to woo the attention of the visiting crowds. Having the best display at the show correlates into a better perception of your company by your peers, as well as by consumers. This having been said, perhaps it is time that your company invested in some quality trade show furniture  to ensure that in the next show, the best booth is yours. Furnishing your booth at a trade event or convention can be as simple as renting the table and chairs from an on-site vendor and then relying heavily on your staff and their handouts and samples to win over crowds. It’s cheap and it usually doesn’t work as well. The next step up the ladder is buying some decent quality off-the-shelf sort of trade show furnishings  to make your booth look a bit more professional. These can be portable and easy to manipulate, ensuring you can set up in any size/shape of space. This booth will be much more interesting to customers, and other vendors than the first one. The best...

Need An Exhibition Stand Manufacturer? Find One On-Line

Need An Exhibition Stand Manufacturer? Find One On-Line

Organizing an exhibit at a trade show or convention is a lot of work. You want your display to draw attention from the crowds and to induce them to linger and look over the materials you are handing out, view your video and sample some of your product. You want a good stand that will hold the items neatly and provide a professional look that lends credibility to your display and your company. What you really need to find is a quality exhibition stand manufacturer .   I rather doubt, however, that you are going to pull out a local telephone directory and thumb through it for a listing entitled “exhibition stand manufacturer”. While these display and stands are specialty items, and you might find a specialty store, the chances are they will have to order or custom-build the stand you want, costing you more money and valuable time. A better plan by far for locating the company you need to provide you with the best stand for your display is to shop for it on the world-wide-web.   The Internet is a huge marketplace and there are manufacturers  and retailers for any and all sorts of products available on-line. Just use your preferred search...
