Quick! Describe the chair you sat in the last time you visited a nightclub. Give up? Don’t feel bad. The truth is that nightclub furniture  doesn’t have to look great to do its job. It just needs to be comfortable and employ some unique safety features peculiar to its dim environment.

Of course, many clubs are lit to some degree, and they certainly don’t want ugly furniture, but looks don’t come first. Easy-to-clean furniture, the kind with very few hard edges, works best for a nightclub. With lots of people moving about in a dimly lit environment, and a few of them perhaps a bit unsteady on their feet, they really don’t want to stumble into a cut or gash, when a bruise will serve as well. Cushioned seating should be easy to keep clean, and countertop and tables easy to wipe down.

That doesn’t mean there are no stylishly decorated nightclubs that don’t look as good with the lights on as off. Some of the bigger nightspots have professional designers put together their look. With special water features, mood lighting, and all the other accessories, plus comfortable, sleek furnishings, these are the high-end nightclubs frequented by the upscale party crowds. Still, when the lights go down, and the taps start flowing, sensible lines and minimal harsh edges are what save their owners lawsuits.

The bars have smooth surfaced, rounded edges, often with little drains built in to handle spilled drinks. The stools are usually stationary and designed for easy access and egress, for all body types. So, if you’ve ever wondered what a nightclub looks like with the lights on, now you know. The fact is that, when it comes to nightclub furniture, practicality has a slight edge over style
