So, you just bought a house – now what? On the whole, there are two different things that have to be done – getting ready to move into a new house and getting everything in order in the old one. Most of these things can be done simultaneously, and the primary aspects you should pay your attention to are as follows:

Just Bought A House: Now What?

Make sure previous utilities bills have been paid

This moment should be negotiated immediately after closing the deal. Make sure all red tape details are in order before you move in. Also, do not forget to pay your own bills before you move out.

Consider renovating the house

Take a good critical look at your house and think what you would like to change. Most likely, you will have a whole range of ideas but you should not hurry to carry them out –wait a little, as ideas often change. You want to be 100% certain that those are the renovations you want – whether it is new wall colour or an extra window in a living room.

Order the furniture you need for your new home

Renovation or no renovation, it is quite likely that you will need new furniture for your new house. For most homeowners, this is not exactly a symbolic gesture – many families switch houses because they get married, have kids – in other words, they need extra room. If this is the case with you, you might not have enough items to furnish your entire home. Yet, some rooms (like bedrooms) require new furniture urgently – and until it arrives, it might be pointless to move in.

Note that choosing great furniture for your new home requires some time. If, for example, you have never had a dining room  before, you will have to spend some time thinking over the interior theme. Then, you will have to find items that would meet your expectations. Then, of course, there is the delivery time. Unless the website you order from operates in the UK and has an established supply and delivery chains- like Furniture in Fashion , for instance – it might take a while before your purchase is delivered.

Send notifications about address change before moving

Do not forget to notify your banks, creditors, tax office, and utility services that you are moving. And, of course, let your friends, colleagues, and relatives know, too.

Of course, this is just a “raw” list of suggestions, and, depending on your circumstances, there can be additional things to take care of. If, for instance, you have kids, you might have to transfer them to a new school; somebody might want to reconsider their fitness clubs and gyms memberships, etc. It is also advisable to research your new neighborhood in greater detail – find out the places you would like to visit, like clubs and pubs, stores, and so on. However, if you just bought a house – and now what is your primary question, these four things are the first ones you should take care of.
