The first step is to discover the ultimate purpose of the room. If it is a bedroom, the bed should be commensurate with the dimensions of the room, leaving enough space for the occupants to move about. For living rooms, decoration becomes an issue. An alternative to floor space is utilizing the walls. Unless the room is situated on a mezzanine, a couple of wall hangings and suspended vases can add a lot of color to an otherwise dimly furnished room.

In this case, the solution is to ensure that any open space in the room gets illuminated. A fan should be placed to allow for stale air to be circulated out of the room. Before thinking of how to decorate a small room, one should also consider the difference between its length and breadth. This is important, because eventually affects the layout of the furniture to be placed in that room.
