Remodeling any bathroom furniture  can present challenges, especially for the do-it-yourself sort. Creating a new look for a small bath, however, can multiply the complexity of the issue until some DIY wannabes are ready to throw in the towel… and the tub… and the toilet… Before you opt to give up before getting started, here are some ideas for bathroom remodeling layouts for small spaces that might just simplify your situation.

For starters, who says every bathroom has to have both a shower and a bathtub? It is a simple matter to choose one or the other and save space. Of course, since tubs take up more room and usually lose the fast/easy contest to their upright shower contemporaries, most small bath layouts work best with a shower only option. Think of the space that could open up. You could even, conceivably, place the shower and the toilet side-by-side and keep an ultra tiny room from being overcrowded.

Another myth is the medicine cabinet must be over the sink. Why? Actually, storing medicines over a damp sink that emits humidity can cause them to deteriorate or melt. Why not simply opt to keep medicines in another room? In short, ideal bathroom remodeling layouts small spaces make use of every inch. Storage can be added below the sink or on shelves above the toilet tank. You can choose from innumerable in-the-shower storage options for soaps and shampoos, and don’t forget that spare bath linens, like medicines, can live in another room until needed.

Keep the layout simple. Minimize the size of your fixtures and fit them together so they work with the way you use the room. Most of all, you cannot let the size of the room push you towards an expensive contractor. You can do this yourself. You just need to get a good plan on paper and work from there.
