A lot of social networking sites, Pinterest probably being the major one, will offer you hundreds of creative solutions on how to make your own furniture. The range of materials will also be quite impressive – and some of them will seem completely unorthodox. Cardboard is, probably, the best example. Who knew that so many stylish furniture units can be made of simple cardboard?

Still, there is no need to run to the store for some cardboard and scissors – not just yet, anyway. Sure, some people are making chairs and armchairs, coffee and dining tables – beds even – out of cardboard, but your common sense should tell you that this is not the most durable solution. No doubt, certain pieces could – probably even should – be made of cardboard. Here are 6 of the most creative ideas that can help to stylishly accessorize your home on a minimal budget.

Wall décor

Here, a lot will depend on your imagination and the schemes you find online. It is possible to create practically any abstract figure to decorate your room, paint it in the variety of wildest colours, and hang it on the wall.

Key storage boxes

Cardboard is durable enough to hold your keys, so you can create a stylish key box to keep all of your hallway  items meticulously organized. This is a great example of a piece that combines creativity and functionality.

Creative shelves

Built-in looking shelves can be made of cardboard, too. However, they will never serve you as bookshelves – the load will simply ruin the construction. Yet, they will be good for keeping some minor trinkets on display.

Picture frames

A picture frame made of cardboard is also an excellent idea. This one might even stay with you for ages –especially if it is a photo frame we are talking about.

Lamp shades

Hundreds of stylish lamp shades can be made of coloured cardboard. The problem is – lampshades look better outside – in the garden, on the porch – and cardboard is not the most water resistant material.

Storage boxes

Different boxes can keep of all of your trinkets organized and create a custom atmosphere in your home.

All in all, there are plenty of creative, incredibly stylish ideas on how to make furniture from cardboard. You can even experiment and make a couple of chairs, tables and even chaise lounges. Yet, it is important to stress that the furniture you are going to sit on, place your food on, or store books at will not last – not even if it is made of the thickest cardboard. Cardboard is a great permanent solution, but no matter how stylish and eye-catching it may be, it will not last for long. If you are looking for a solid investment of your time and money, you should better look for more traditional, higher quality solutions made of solid wood – or at least of fine quality MDF. Fortunately, the selection in the UK furniture stores  is not limited at all – quite on the contrary, you will probably find even more creative, elegant solutions there.
