As we live, we learn. Sometimes, we reach a point in our lives when downsizing our home just makes sense. Maybe you are facing economic issues that are forcing you to give up your home, or maybe it’s simply the fact that the kids have flown the nest and you no longer need a couple thousand square feet to knock around in. Whatever your reason, if you are contemplating a move, going from house to apartment furniture , then here are some tips to adjust to the changes.

The best adjustment to start with, is preparation. Preparing for the move starts long before you sign the lease. You need to start getting rid of things you know cannot go with you. Family pieces can be passed on to the kids who are setting up their own households, or shared with siblings, nieces and other kindred. Extras that won’t be needed can be sold at a garage or tag sale to generate cash. Things you can’t sell can be donated to charitable organizations. You’ll be helping out a worthy cause and earning you tax deductions. The next step is not to downsize from huge to tiny. Pick an apartment that is smaller and more efficiently laid out than your old home, but not so cramped that you instantly begin missing your space. A good rule is to change the square footage of living area by a half or less, not more.
