clean and repair  How to Clean and Repair Dining Chairs Covers

Dining chairs covers can be seriously damaged during the cleaning process. Upholstery fabric can also bleach or pill. If something has already happened, this is not the reason to buy new dining chairs. Here, we are going to tell you both how to clean and repair dining chairs covers.

Know Your Material

You have to know exactly what your dining chairs covers are made of. This is vital, because upholstery cleaning methods can be very different. You will need to buy special cleaners for natural leather, for example. Some fabrics can be easily spoiled by chemicals. The best options for cleaning delicate fabrics are vacuuming and a simple brush.

Different Cleaning Methods Examples

Microfiber dining chairs covers can not be cleaned with hard brushes. This will make the fabric pill. Pills removal can damage the structure of the fabric and even create holes. Microfiber should be cleaned with soft sponges and mild soap. Velour, velvet or plush covers do not really need vacuuming all the time. You may put a soft cloth on the cover and pat it. The damp cloth will absorb the dust.

Be quick

Any material should be cleaned at once. It would be best to remove any stains on dining chairs  covers while they are still fresh, rather than let the dirt dry out or absorb. Even if you have vinyl dining chairs covers that do not absorb anything, it will be much easier for you to wipe the dirt right away than to rub it later.

Be Careful

First, test a new cleaner on a small, barely visible, spot. Hard to find? Try! An improper cleaner may cost you a chair cover. Actually, do not rush to apply chemicals at all. Often, it is enough to use a sponge and a mild soapy solution. When you are using cleaners, do not to rub them into the fabric. Also, do not use a lot of water, as it may cause stains, too. Plus, you do not always need water. Dried dirt, for example, can be easily removed with a soft brush. Remove all stains from the edge to the center.

Washing

If you decided to wash the upholstery, use these tips. First, any chair should be hand-washed. Do not use laundry bleach and other strong chemicals. Do not use a clothes dryer.

Repair

Repairing means depend both on the material and the damage degree. You may scratch a leather chair cover or cut any upholstery type. Scratches can be removed with liquid leather solutions. Make sure that you have chosen the shade that totally matches your dining room chair cover, though. If the fabric is torn, you have to cut a piece of it around the damage, and sew a new piece instead of it. Or, if you have an opportunity, you should better remove the old cover entirely.

Remember, it is always better to prevent the damage, than to deal with it later. If you know how to clean and repair dining chairs covers, your furniture will always remain a decor element in your home.
