What To Do After Buying A House: 5 Simple Pointers

A lot of young families wonder what to do after buying a house. On the whole, it looks like the most important thing is done; but, in fact, there are plenty of other chores and minor tasks even after the purchase. Lots will depend on your circumstances; do you live in a rented apartment, or do you have to sell your current property is one of the most important aspects that make a difference. Still, even though there are dozens of things you will have to take care of, the initial, urgent list of what to do after buying a house can be limited to 5 little piece of advice:

What To Do After Buying A House: 5 Simple Pointers

Check it for pests

Even if you have done an initial check before buying the house, wait for a while and make another one. This way, you will 100% certain that none of them ‘came back’, even if there were bugs or rodents.

Double check for leakages

Additional check for gas, water, or any other kind of leakages is necessary before you can start planning on moving in. If some problems have to be fixed, they should better be fixed in an empty house.

Think over your interior

If you have previously lived in rented apartments and are not exactly sure how to furnish you new house, it is time to start thinking over your future interior. You can surely assign this task to a professional designer, but generally most UK homeowners manage to cope with that all by themselves. After all, weighing over the style of your house and ordering new furniture  is an exciting task.

Even of you already have some furniture, you might still have to order extra – especially if the new house is bigger. Ideally, the sooner you do that – the better, as the delivery may take some time. And, if there is no single furniture item that you own, start with the essentials first – a bed , a dining table, some chairs etc. The sooner you get your essentials delivered, the sooner you will be able to move in.

Clean the house

You can do it when you move in, but cleaning a house with no furniture is way easier – so, brace yourself and get to sweeping.

Notify relevant services before moving out

There is a long list of services, agencies and people that have to be notified about your new address. As a rule those are utilities (electricity, water, gas, Internet, etc.), financial organizations (banks, insurance, social security), health establishments, schools, and so on – the exact list is up to you to figure out.

On the whole, those are the most important tips on what to do after buying a house, and as soon as you are done with these simple five steps, you can start packing. Of course, these tips are just preliminary suggestions, and, in fact, you will have to do a lot more than that – you will still have to explore the neighbourhood, meet the neighbours, and complete plenty of other chores as well. Yet, those tips pretty much cover the basic, universal things that need to be done.
