What Do We Know About Furniture? Rethinking Design through Building

We are hardly aware of furniture  or furniture making history. Though it is the most common object right in front of our eyes, but none of us has ever pondered over the making of it. Some of us are even satisfied with what lies around us that we don’t even think of bringing in a change. Unfortunately, it is laziness that leads us to such attitude.
To be completely aware of any particular idea, it is essential to work for that thing. Let’s give a new way to our casual approach. Instead of just searching for furniture and admiring it, let’s design our own piece. It is rethinking design through building. You start of with a basic idea but eventually end up making a master piece. It is exactly what an industrial designer will do when an idea triggers him.

First is the basic sketch of the furniture piece you want to design. It can be a rough drawing without any specific details. If you are satisfied with what you have drawn then you move to the detailed rendered drawing of the object. This is done from two different points i.e. front view and a side view of the object. Later is the more detailed, three dimensional drawing from four different angles. This is the first stage where your product gets its visual form. During this stage any addition or subtraction can make your design unique and stylish.

Once it is done, the dimensions are specified for the object to be produced. The next stage is the manufacturing of the furniture. Here the material, quality and skill are monitored to bring the best result.
All of the stages require tough, hard work and immense mental strength. Once you practice the process on your own, then you realise the worth of all commonly used objects around you.
