Sofa sets typically include a sofa, loveseat or oversized armchair and, on occasion, another chair. Some retailers will throw in tables or other accessories, but most charge extra. The purpose in buying a sofa set as opposed to purchasing the pieces separately is, of course, to save money. By choosing the right sofa set design, you can save not only dollars, but space, as well.
So, what sofa set do you choose for your living room or den? First, check out the space you have available. This is easy if you are moving into a new home or apartment and harder if you have stuff all over the room. Measurements come in handy and a layout on paper even handier. Do you have room for a sofa, loveseat and chair ? Maybe a sofa and loveseat alone, or just a sofa with the oversized chair would suit your available space better? Measure the area from each direction, and be sure to take into account doorways and windows that you’ll need to access and, of course, walk space. Then, you are ready to shop.
A sofa set design can be a simple diagram on a bit of graph paper if the measurements of both the room and the set are done correctly. Sometimes you can provide the retailer with the room’s dimensions and a computer program will suggest possible sofa sets for use in your living room. Then, unfortunately, there are those that insist on “eyeballing” the measurements. Those are the people who end up with a loveseat in the dining room because it didn’t fit in the living room.
So, before you select a sofa set, you want to make sure the design and/or layout suits your space. Spend that bit of extra time doing your homework and you’ll be happier with your purchase once it has been made.
