I’d love to have a huge, overstuffed sofa big enough for a football team to wallow on while watching the game. Unfortunately, like many people, I have a living room that simply will not accommodate a piece of furniture of that size. So, I have had to lower my size expectations, but have refused to compromise my demand for quality and style. Finding the right sofa for small spaces can be challenging, but eventually, it can prove most rewarding, as well.
The first step in finding the sofa that’s a perfect fit for a smaller room isn’t done on-line or in a store. It’s done in your room. You need to measure. Some people go so far as cutting out a piece of paper the size of the sofa they want just to see how much space remains. It may sound like overkill, but it beats buying a sofa that’s too big or smaller than you like. Both outcomes will be prevented if you take time up front to ascertain the best size for your room.
Take those measurements along when you go shopping. Still, you’ll need to keep in mind other things besides size. For instance, big loud prints don’t look great in small rooms. A good sofa for small spaces will be solid colored or have a muted print design, and it will not be overly tall or over-stuffed. It should look as if it were sized to suit the room and blend with your décor.
Of course, don’t forget to check for workmanship. You want a quality frame made of good wood and lots of cushion. You also want it covered in fabric that lasts and looks good, too. Soon, your small room will have just the right sofa, and maybe the midget-league team can wallow on it to watch the game with you!
