How Can You Make My White Bookcase Into A Gloss White Shine: 4 Major Steps

How can you make my white bookcase into a gloss shine is not one of the truly complicated tasks that cannot be completed at home, all on your own. Yet, it still requires a little bit of preparation work. On the whole, the entire process behind turning a painted white bookcase  into a gloss white shine unit can be broken down into four major stages:

Prepping the bookcase

Prepping the bookcase

The first tip while making a white bookcase  into a gloss white shine — or any other furniture piece in that matter — is to find a place where you are going to work on the piece. During the summer time, a yard or a garden will do just fine — as long as you avoid direct sunlight. During the rainy or cold season, you should of course look for some cover — a shade or a basement, for example. Here, it is important to look for properly ventilated premises, though.

Removing old paint and finishes

Even if your bookcase  is covered in white paint and it is white gloss finish you are looking for, simply covering the piece in transparent gloss will not have the job done. You will have to remove the old paint first. There are plenty of ready made paint strippers in stores, which offer a quick and easy way to remove the paint.

Sanding

Even as you strip your old paint away some minor ‘leftovers’ will be tough to get rid of. Still, there is no need to worry — after stripping the paint, you can sand the piece to remove absolutely all traces of previous finish. Yet another remark for those people who are going to paint the piece into the same colour is not to get too perfectionist while sanding — save your time and effort.

Applying new high gloss finish

After you are done stripping and sanding, you will have two possible options to give your bookcase a white shiny look. You can either use simple white paint and apply transparent glossy finish after it is dry, or save your time and effort by going with ready-made high gloss finish in white.

And, of course, do not forget that white gloss furniture calls for matching high gloss units to make your room picture complete. Also, white gloss furniture looks simply astonishing with light leather and clear glass. Tinted glass with a darker shade is an amazing idea to create contrasts in the room.  LED lights  also work very fine in the majority of modern interiors.

Finally, note that it is not always necessary to refinish your bookcase all by yourself — sometimes, getting a brand new model is a more reasonable idea. At least, make sure that the bookcase is intact before you start — check out doors, shelves, and overall integrity of the unit. If the piece is not damaged and it really is only the finish that needs replacement, the idea might be truly worth your time and effort. If not, do not hesitate and hit the stores  at once.
