The images shape of your dining table  is surely not the first thing on your mind as you plan furniture expenses for your new home. However, this question becomes a pressing one as soon as you start furnishing and decorating your dining room – especially, if you are looking for space-savvy solutions. Basically, there are 4 classic dining table  shapes – which one is suitable for you will depend on a number on deciding factors such as the size and shape of your dining area, the number of your family members and guests you plan to accommodate, etc. Here’s a brief overview of classic table shapes to help you make your final decision.

Rectangular dining table shapes

Rectangular table shape is a timeless solution, as it can accommodate maximum amount of seaters and is suitable for big family dinners and friends` reunions. Thus, an average-sized dining table (90×150 cm) can accommodate 6 to 8 people – even 10, on occasions. Approximate sizes of rectangular shaped dining tables and their seating capacity are as follows:

– 150×90 cm up to 6 seaters
– 200×110 cm up to 8 seaters
– 260×110 cm up to 10 seaters
– 320×110 с cm up to 12 seaters

Needless to say, rectangular dining tables are only suitable for spacious premises – obviously, they will look too obtrusive in a small kitchen or living room.

Square dining table shapes

Unlike rectangular shaped tables, square ones will fit into almost any room – such solutions are compact and easy to move and therefore enjoy great popularity. For example, a small square dining table (90×90 cm) can easily accommodate 4 seaters and can be placed in a small kitchen or living room without creating furniture clutter. If you plan to invite friends or other family members over to diner, its always best to opt for an extending solution.

Round dining table shapes

When it comes to choosing among various dining table shapes – round ones are surely worth considering, if you want to create a truly charming and unforgettable impression. Besides, round table shape is believed to facilitate communication and create friendly atmosphere. Therefore, many homeowners actually prefer round dining table shapes despite their obvious downside – you cannot place them next to the wall to leave the center of the room open, for example.

Oval dining table shapes

Oval dining table shapes have a number of obvious benefits – they can accommodate many seaters just like their rectangular counterparts, but the absence of sharp corners makes them safer, especially if you have kids. Still this table shape is very space consuming and will suit you only if your dining area is large enough.

These are some of the basic dining table shapes – it’s up to you to decide which one is suitable for you. Don’t forget, though, that in order to feel comfortable, each of the seaters should have at least 45 cm of personal space, and if space is a problem, you can also go with extending dining tables.
