<\/p>\nRestaurants are among the hardest hit businesses in today\u2019s rough economy. With so many families and individuals cutting back on their \u201cexcess spending\u201d, dinner out is not as common for most of us. In order to keep the customer\u2019s coming back, lots of them have lowered prices on their menus and added specials. Another thing they\u2019ve done is to replace their old restaurant furniture to update it for the way we dine today.<\/p>\n

When we do dine out, we seem to be doing it differently. Instead of a table for two or a booth for four, we are seeing singles eating out alone. Of course, they do bring along a little luggage. That luggage is often in the form of a laptop computer or, since its recent release, maybe an Ipad\u00ae. This diner needs a table with space to use his computer or device in relative privacy, and still have room for that tuna on a whole-wheat pita. That\u2019s okay because today\u2019s restaurant furniture<\/strong> is up to the task.<\/p>\n Another emerging trend is the group dinner. Lots of friends or business associates eat out en masse. That means today\u2019s restaurant owner needs to be able to seat twelve as easily as four. Booths don\u2019t work well for this, but tables that break down and combine for lots of sizes and shapes, do. We are even seeing a return to eating at the counter. I suppose it might be nostalgia, or simply a way for the diner who\u2019s eating alone to feel a little less left out (if he hasn\u2019t got his laptop along).<\/p>\n Changes in the way we eat out are definitely impacting how restaurants furnish their establishments. Our dining out trends during these difficult economic times may be directly responsible for some of the changes in restaurant furniture and that\u2019s good.
