If you\u2019re going green, you have probably started becoming environmentally conscious of where your furniture\u00a0<\/a> comes from. While it might not save a tree that has already been cut down if you change out your bookcase or toss your dining room set, there are small things you can do to ensure your house has some earth-friendly sorts of furniture. One of the nicest \u201cgreen\u201d items I\u2019ve seen recently is a coffee table with storage baskets.<\/p>\n

These coffee tables\u00a0<\/a> feature a tabletop and legs made from wood, usually the kind that is planted, harvested and replanted, also called a sustainable form of lumber. It is what lies under that table\u2019s surface that makes this coffee table different from the rest. Suspended on wooden racks built below the table\u2019s surface are baskets woven of wicker or rattan. Occasionally you might find one that has linen lining in the baskets as an added bonus. The idea is that these environmentally friendly baskets can be taken out, filled with whatever needs stowing away and then slid back into their slot beneath the table\u2019s top. That makes this sort of table a smart, good-looking and earth-friendly piece of furniture that does more than one job at a time and looks really good in the process.<\/p>\n

Now, not all coffee table with storage\u00a0<\/a> baskets are created equally. Some are made of non-sustainable lumber or their baskets are suspended on wire racks. So, to ensure you get both a great table and are helping out the planet, you might have to shop around.
