Valet Stands, Not Just For Parking Attendants

I bought a new valet stand. When I mentioned it to a friend, she was puzzled because she’d never heard of one in a home. She immediately thought of valet parking and wondered if I had a side business she didn’t know about! Fortunately, I was able to enlighten her as to how useful and attractive old-fashioned valet stands can be in our modern day world.

My husband is a busy executive. He wears a suit, or dress slacks with a sports coat, almost every day. Having those expensive items of clothing dry cleaned each and every time he wears them is not practical. Hanging them in the closet is fine, but it is just as easy to hang them on the stand. This way, he knows what he’s worn this week! Besides, he is forever rummaging around in our closet at four a.m. in order to dress in time to catch an early flight. So I decided he needed a valet stand to hold his suit at ready when he’s ready for it.

Valets, when everyone had servants, were the dignified gentleman’s gentlemen that folded the master clothes and dressed him for dinner. You remember them from movies, or maybe you feel like you are one on occasion? I did. Valet stands, such as the one I bought, have a top that works like a hanger for his coat and shirt, a slot for hanging his trousers and there’s even a space for a belt and seat, where he can sit and slip on his socks and shoes. They keep everything nice and neat, and easy to find, even in the wee hours of the morning.

Why not consider one of the many stylish adaptations of valet stands furniture on the market in order to keep your nicer clothes looking nice? For every day or for special occasions, these decorative, functional pieces are a great tool in caring for your better garments and they make the room look nice, too.
