Remove water damage

Water or coffee spills, wet glasses or even vases leave white marks and rings on the wooden surface of the coffee table when the moisture seeps into the finish. Ensure that you don’t allow a spill or marks to linger for a long time on the coffee table. Place a clean and thick towel on the stain immediately whenever something spills on the table. Gently heat the iron and press over the towel for a few seconds. The gentle heat helps in releasing the moisture into the towel. Lift the towel on frequent intervals to check the result. Repeat the process till the stain disappears from the surface of the table.

Polish the Surface

Wooden coffee tables are refreshing and have a natural gloss. Over the period of time, the natural finish of the coffee table disappears as a result of constant use. To maintain the shine and natural gloss of the wooden surface, ensure that you polish the coffee table at least twice a year. If required, you can also buy an expensive polish for the coffee table. In addition, you can also use hard carnauba wax to restore the shine of the wooden surface. Another effective measure is to use a mixture of lemon juice and olive oil. Dab one-third lemon juice and three parts of olive oil on a lint-free cloth and rub it on the wooden surface to restore the glow.

Wash the Table

If you notice that the coffee table is looking used and old, you don’t need to throw it away. Following a simple washing regime can help you restore the look of the coffee table. Take a bowl of warm water and one cup of vinegar or soap. Take a soft cloth and wipe the wooden surface of the table with the mixture. Clean the tricky areas such as the corners, edges and intricate designs that trap a lot of dirt. Rinse the cloth and wipe the table with fresh water. Lastly, wipe the coffee table with a dry cloth to remove the residual moisture content.

Use Nuts to Cover Scratches

Wooden coffee tables are susceptible to scratches and dents. However, you don’t need to cover the table with a bubble wrap to prevent damage. You can use fresh walnuts or Brazil nuts to darken the wooden surface. Crack open a nut, rub it over the scratch and wipe the area with a clean cloth. Keep the nuts on the table until the scratch blends with the wood.

Prevention is the Key

In addition to the tips mentioned above, ensure that you keep trays handy, especially when you have guests at home. Make sure that you wipe the spill immediately with a clean cloth or paper towel to prevent damage. Avoid sliding coffee mugs or trays on the tables to avoid scratches and stains on the coffee table. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, heating vents and radiators to prevent cracking.
