When we think storage, most of us immediately hone in on closets and cabinets. Closets are great, and cabinets are must-haves in kitchens and baths. Still, there are lots of other places where we need to store things and we need storage furnishings that are up to the task. Fortunately, today we have a broad selection of storage-related furnishings for keeping track of that growing library of books, CDs, DVDs, etc. Then there are last summer’s swimming inflatable toys and the holiday decorations that didn’t fit in the attic. Yes. We definitely need to get the most of our storage furniture .
The armoire was once a term used to denote a cabinet used primarily for storing clothing, or on occasion, linens. Today’s armoires house computers with all their peripherals, television sets, stereos and, on occasion, clothes. Another piece of furniture that has evolved to handle some of our modern storage deficit is the bookshelf. Bookshelves can hold more than books, and many are designed with built in drawers, small cabinets and plate racks to prove it.
Of course, there are new pieces of furniture being designed every day to keep track of the things we need to store. Multi-media storage racks were not even conceivable back in the 1970s and we can’t seem to keep up with their changing styles today. Then, there are those very utilitarian bits of storage furniture usually found around laundry rooms and in garages. While perhaps less decorative, they have also undergone vast improvements in quality and capacity. Our new motto might be, “the more we can store, the more clutter we can eliminate”.
So, instead of throwing out that eight-track collection or giving up your pursuit of your ninety-seventh Beanie® Baby, go ahead and invest in some high-quality storage furniture. You and your beanies will be glad that you did.
