Setting Up Your Workspace To Ensure Computer Desk Ergonomics

We spend a lot of time at our computer desks these days – both at home and in the office. The toll it takes on our health and general wellbeing is enormous – there is no secret in that. Yet, by carefully organizing your workspace, you get a chance to avoid certain problems – or alleviate them at the very least. Proper computer desk ergonomics does not only prevent plenty of back and health problems, it also facilitates your working process and reduces the sense of fatigue by the end of the day. So, if you are trying to create a properly functional working spot, here are some things you will have to pay your attention to:

Setting Up Your Workspace To Ensure Computer Desk Ergonomics

Chair

People are different. We have different postures, different bodies, we prefer different positions while working. So, a computer chair  should be adjustable. Armrests, seat height, and most importantly – back height should be adjustable. Sit upright, declined, reclined – and make sure that you feel comfortable in any of those positions. And, of course, do not forget that an ergonomic chair should not only be adjustable, it should also feature a comfortable cushion – not too soft, not too hard.

Desk

Desk height cannot normally be adjusted, but you should make sure that your arms are placed comfortably when you type. Ideally, your wrists should be at a natural angle when you type – usually, no more than 20 degrees. Sure, you will not need to measure that with a protraction set square; yet, you still have to make sure that your wrists are comfortable when you work – and that is where desk height or keyboard tray height comes in.

Monitor

You should not stay too close to your monitor. Ideally the distance between your eyes and the computer screen should be at least 50 cm – better, even a hundred.

You

Finally, a lot will depend on you. Avoid questions mark back positions, try to keep your back upright, carefully consider your keyboard and mouse placement; do not forget to change your position every half an hour or so – ideally, even more often. Take breaks, do not stay seated for hours; take some time to look back from the screen once in a while.

Finally, you should not underestimate your computer furniture design. Even though both a chair and a desk should first of all be functional and comfortable, it does not mean that the items can be ugly. It doesn’t matter if you work from home or from office – in any case, you will be spending quite a lot of time at your desk. So, it should also be stylish and attractive – after all, ergonomics does not only imply comfort of usage, but also how cozy you feel at your work spot.
