Pros and Cons of Drop Leaf Dining Sets

Drop leaf dining sets might not be the most elegant or rich looking furniture arrangements, yet they definitely offer some useful benefits – especially for those people whose space is limited. Though, of course, drop leaf dining sets have several disadvantages in comparison to more elegant furniture sets . So, consider some of these pros and cons before you decide whether the purchase is worth it.

Pros

Compact size – most drop leaf dining sets are designed for two people; they feature very compact size and an additional leaf to increase your table space when you need it. It is also possible to find drop leaf dining sets designed for 4 or more people; however, two persons is an undeniable classic. Note, that chairs are usually included into the set – but this is not a fixed rule – sometimes, it is just a table.

Increased functionality – an additional leaf ensures greater functionality of the table. It offers you to save as much room for yourself as it is technically possible, while at the same time allowing you to quickly and easily increase table surface to place your plates, drinks, dishes, etc.

Different shades to choose from – normally, drop leaf tables are made of MDF or wood. Both are traditional interior arrangements, offering you an opportunity to choose from the widest selection of hues and colours – from practically white oak or yellowish pine to brownish walnut or dark mahogany.

Affordable price – the majority of drop leaf dining sets are available at a very low price, which is, perhaps, one of the primary reasons why people buy such sets. If compared to other budget furniture models (typically made of plastic), MDF drop leaf tables offer a combination of coziness and affordability.

Cons

The range of material is limited – most drop leaf tables are made of either wood or MDF. You will not find any fancy, high gloss or safety glass models in this category. Neither will they feature any metal inserts or decorative LED stripes – as a rule, it is just bare wood or MDF.

Pros and Cons of Drop Leaf Dining Sets

Look plain – minimalistic design with no decoration whatsoever makes most drop leaf dining sets look plain. Surely, this is a common problem for most budget furniture.

Build quality is often poor – finally, the build quality on most drop leaf dining sets leaves some room for the improvement. Surely, it will not fall apart any time soon, but on the whole, most leafs are rather shaky – and what is even more important – they get shakier with time.

Of course, it is up to you to decide whether to buy drop leaf dining sets or not. As it was already mentioned, they may not be the most functional or stylish solutions. However, they are cheap and are simply essential for limited spaces. Still, there are plenty of other dining room tables that are compact and affordable – especially if you purchase them on sales . All in all, established furniture stores can often offer you a selection of more elegant furniture items at a similar price.
