Preparing Dining Tables and the Dining Room For Entertaining Your Guests

There is a saying that a house full of people is a happy house, and I believe that it is very true. But, you as a host, you shouldn’t be satisfied just with inviting people to your home. You have to put in that little extra effort into insuring that your guests are feeling comfortable and tended.

The most important things for achieving this, aside from the food and drinks being prepared, are the setting of the dining table and the dining room for entertainment. Let’s start with the dining room by removing any furniture  or bulky objects that you will not need and that may take up a lot of space. Instead, place a server or a small table as an additional surface area where you can put meals that are waiting to be served, some extra glasses and a few bottles of wine.

Make sure that the room is well lit. It must not be dimly, as people want to see the food and the companions while eating, but do not make it to bright. You don’t want your guests reaching for their sunglasses either. And don’t forget to leave enough space around the table, so your guests can move their chairs. Usually, a space of 2-2.5 feet between place settings is quite enough.

And finally, arrange your dining table  with the same care you are arranging your food. Leave enough space for every guest and set the meals in places that are easily reachable by everyone. If you have a long table, divide each meal and serve it into two or more separate dishes, and put some decorations. You can use a single centerpiece, or a couple of smaller flower arrangements, a few candles or simple porcelain figurines. Use your imagination anyway you like. The preparation of the dining table and the dining room for entertaining will take up some time, but it will also give your guests that little extra pleasure needed to insure a beautiful and memorable meal with friends or family.
