MAKE YOUR DINING ROOM WORK FOR YOU

A dining room is a place where the whole family gets-together during meal times or the place which is most useful while entertaining guests. Most homeowners today who have formal dining rooms, seldom use them. This wasted space can be put to better use by rethinking and repurposing your rooms.

Hectic schedules don’t leave the family enough time to sit and have a long drawn meal time. As this room is not often utilized it can very well be called as wasted space in the house. Just because the room is called as the dining room, does not mean that, that is the only function of the room. There are other functions it can serve making it a multi- functional area for the family to use and making better use of space which otherwise would have been wasted.

Office: With an increasing number of people opting for working from home, the under used dining room makes an excellent office. This works especially well if the dining room is near the front door. The clients won’t have to trapeze all over the house to reach your office. You can have an office that doesn’t look boring and drab. Using lamps instead of boring lights, pretty accessories and a rug will be effective in serving both the purposes. An attractive dining room office as well as an innovative office space. Sideboards can be used to store paperwork as well as cutlery. Stylish bins and boxes are most handy to store supplies and stationery.

Playroom: If you like the children’s room to look spic and span all the time, give them a special place to play in. The seldom used dining room can take on the role of a play room for the children or the elders alike. Instead of having a fancy table go in for a sturdy and simple table. This table can act as a makeshift ping pong table. The carom board or other board games can be placed on the table when the family wants to play them. The chairs can be placed aside to make space for a standalone, foldable billiards table. The alternatives are various, which one to choose will depend on you and the favorite time game of your family.

For the little children the table can be converted into a crafts table with toy bins, bookshelves and rugs to enhance their enjoyment.

Library: If you are a book lover and want your books to be treated right, then there is nothing better than dedicating a room to them. The rarely used dining area can double up as a library. One of the shelves on the walls of your dining room can display your prized possessions. Or stacking them up on the sideboard or the dining table too, is a great option.

Homework-Station: Children need to complete lots of homework, assignments and project work. A work station with all tools, reference material and stationery in one place will ensure that work gets done conveniently and smoothly.
