Important Tips On Buying Quality Furniture: 5 Things That Require Attention

The importance of buying quality furniture – for home or for office – cannot be stressed hard enough. As a rule, a quality furniture piece is a piece that combines good design and solid functionality. Sure, there is no universal advice on how to determine if the piece you are looking at is of high quality – the aspects you will have to evaluate will mostly depend on what exactly you are buying. After all, you cannot use the same parameters for a bed and for a wardrobe, so it all about the details. However, there are several things you will have to consider – no matter if you are looking for a chest of drawers or a bar stool . Here they are:

Important Tips On Buying Quality Furniture: 5 Things That Require Attention

Functionality

To begin with, you should define the functionality you actually need and build on that. If it is a storage unit you are looking for – like a sideboard – you should evaluate its capacity to make sure it matches your requirements. If it is a computer chair, you should consider its ergonomics. On the whole, you should ask yourself if the piece does what it is supposed to do – and how beneficial the functionality is for you personally.

Material

The quality of the material is of primary importance. Wood, for instance, should be solid – not glued together. Leather should be genuine, not bonded. Glass should be tempered for your safety. MDF should be thick enough – otherwise, it will not last. Steel should be stainless – actually, it should better be chrome.

Fixation elements

Pay attention to how a furniture unit is fixed together – is it glued (not the best option), bolted, screwed, etc. How strong is the fixation – that should be your concern at this point.

Rolling mechanisms

If there is something that should be rolling or moving in the furniture piece – pay your particular attention to the quality of this mechanism. The example of the sliding wardrobe is the best one here – if the railings are too thin, and the fixation is too shaky, you will have to completely replace the slides in less than a year – and the repair is very pricy, sometimes – even impossible.

Design pattern

Most people start their evaluation with thus point, but it is much wiser to save it for last. Sure, an item should be appealing visually, but no furniture piece, no matter how gorgeous it may look, will be of use if it breaks down in a week.

Finally, the reputation of the store is also very important – especially if you are shopping online and cannot check out the piece physically. On the whole, buying furniture in big stores  is a better idea – first of all, they tend to exist longer than the smaller companies, which is why they have the time to work on their database – that is, choose quality manufacturers and avoid working with the less reliable furniture suppliers. Also, make sure to carefully read product descriptions and do not hesitate to contact customer support if you have any questions about the piece you like. Plus, going through customer reviews wouldn’t hurt either.
