How To Make A Small Room Bigger: 6 Tricks That Work

As much a we want to, there’s really no way of making a small room bigger, unless, of course, we resort to some truly radical measures like combining adjacent rooms, which may involve reconstruction of entire premises. Still, there is one thing we can do – we can make a small room appear larger – to the point where the effect is truly impressive. There are numerous tricks which help achieve added space effect, such as mirrors, lighting fixtures, folding beds and extending tables. We have prepared a comprehensive list of them for your convenience.

How To Make A Small Room Bigger: 6 Tricks That Work

Proper colour scheme
You’ve probably heard it a thousand times, but light hues do make rooms appear visually larger. If you don’t like white, the whole pastels` palette is to your service. The choice is absolutely up to you, but do choose white for the ceiling. This will add volume to your room and make it appear bigger.

Floor covering
Believe it or not, if you place parquet or laminate in diagonal direction,  it will enlarge the perceived space. Of course, this, as well as choosing the colour scheme, needs to be done before your room is redecorated and furnished.

Use of extra space
This may sound strange, as it seems to be so little space in you small room. But if you give it some thought, you’ll start to see available options. Hint – use shutters and blinds instead of curtains, this will instantly make your room appear more spacious. Use overhead space to store books and things you don’t need very often. Turn your window sill into an extra shelf, or, even better – enlarge it and turn it into a working table or a trendy sofa.

Playing the mirror trick
Get a big mirror plate and attach it to one of the walls. Ideally, it should reach the ceiling. This trick will virtually create space – albeit, just perceived one. If you need a wardrobe  for your small room – get the one with mirrored doors.

Taking care of lighting
Your small room should be well lit, unless, of course, you want to leave it looking like a den. Avoid using big chandeliers, even if they look truly fancy and stylish – these design elements will overload the room and take away precious space. Instead, choose simple and elegant sets of lamps and make sure your small premises are well lit.

Buy appropriate furniture
Most importantly, buy convertible furniture that serves multiple purposes, such as, for example, a sofa bed, chairs with storage options, etc. Go for corner shelving units, wall-mounted TV stands and extending tables. If your small room is a bedroom, buy a bed with drawers for storing clothes and linen.

Modern stores offer a plethora of folding, extending and convertible furniture solutions, still it makes sense to shop for them in big reputable retail chains, such as Furniture in Fashion . This platform offers an extensive product range capable of meeting requirements of the most demanding customers, and the pricing is moderate and reasonable as well. The store has a showroom you can visit in person, which is an unquestionable benefit.
