What ultimately exemplifies the definition of “personal space” is the bedroom. It is not surprising that most homemakers pay maximum attention to the situation and decoration of the bedroom. If it is a small bedroom , it must be decorated intelligently so that the utilization of space is optimal. There are several strategies that need to be followed while decorating a small bedroom. After all, one must remember that the bedroom is where one spends at least a third of one’s lifetime.

In any house, the bedroom  should have the maximum level of comfort. The first step should be to position the bed in such a way that there is optimum ventilation on every side and plenty of space to move around on at least one side. A doormat or carpet is recommended. While it is advisable to keep the bed close to a window, sufficient distance should be maintained to avoid banging one’s head against the wood unintentionally. If the room is situated on the ground floor, valuable items should be kept well away from the window to avoid major losses during theft. Heavy drapes should not be used in warmer regions, since they impair the circulation of air through the room.

It is advisable to keep a bed-switch within reach, in case it suddenly becomes necessary to switch on the lights in the middle of the night. Alternatively, a bedside lamp can be used. A night stand is essential in order to place the lamp. The design of the night stand should ideally be similar to that of the bed. If the night stand has drawers or lockers, valuables can be safely kept in them. The idea behind keeping a night stand is to have anything and everything that might be needed at night, within arm’s length.
