Hotels across the country are busy redecorating. With current travel trends tending to be directed as much by the economy as by travel reviews, today’s pennywise travelers are finding ways to save on their accommodations, but that does not mean they are willing to compromise comfort. With fewer travelers booking rooms, hotels are feeling the need to update their look. Thus many are installing innovative amenities and updating hotel furniture in order to increase bookings.
Some hotel chains are advertising their new look, going so far as to name the brand of bedding they’ve switched to in order to lock in the comfort-driven traveler. Others are simply featuring improved hotel décor in their ads and brochures. Since more hotels are becoming “suite” hotels (where you get a bedroom, bathroom and a sitting area), the rooms require more furniture, too. No longer can your host get away with a bed, two end tables, lamps and a dresser in the bedroom plus a fold up suitcase rack. Now they need to furnish a settee, a desk with access to Internet connection and a number of other updated furnishings just to complete the room.
While the cost of redecorating a large hotel can be quite high, most hoteliers feel the expense to be justified. Many of them are looking past the current travel slump to the future when their updated rooms will attract business and pleasure travelers. For some, of course, it’s way overdue. I won’t name any names, but I can think of with a few big chains that needed new hotel furniture in more than jus their rooms a long time ago!
So, go ahead. Pack your suitcase and get ready for an adventure. There will be many new things to see, and a few of them might just be in your hotel room.
